DYL Code of Conduct
Mission and Purpose:
The Dracut Park and Recreation Commission, and it’s sub-committee,DYL, is committed to creating a positive and meaningful experience to the boys and girls participating in the town’s youth sports program. The Dracut Park and Recreation firmly believes that for this vision to happen that parents, coaches, spectators, and players (hereafter "participants") must be held accountable for their behavior.
Inappropriate Behavior by Participants and Spectators:
  • Taunting, criticizing or jeering of opposing players
  • Cursing
  • Fighting
  • Speaking or yelling at the referee at any time
  • Critical, insulting, foul, or discriminating actions before, during or following games or practices
  • The addressing of a player by a parent, spectator, or legal guardian of any player other than their own son or daughter.

Inappropriate behavior is cause for warning, ejection from the game, and suspension depending on the infraction.
Repeat offenses will result in participant or spectator being barred from participating in future games and practices after a review by the DYL Board of Directors for further disciplinary action.
Control of Team
Coaches are responsible for the conduct of their players, coaches and spectators for the team.  If a Referee requests the Coach to address an area of inappropriate behavior or unsportsmanlike conduct the Coach is responsible to do so.
Suspension Rules:
Coaches shall have the authority to temporarily suspend a player on his/her team from activity for a period not to exceed beyond the next game, when in the coach's view a player's conduct during a team activity warrants such action. When a player is expelled from a game by a Referee the player automatically is suspended from the next game.
When a player is removed from a game they must stay in the bench area until a parent or legal guardian is present to escort the player from the field area.
All suspensions are to be reported to the DYL President or Vice Presidents of Boys & Girls Lacrosse as soon as possible.
Board of Directors
When the board has been informed that a participant has violated the Code of Conduct the board will investigate the matter to determine the facts. This may include speaking with the Coaches both from DYL and opposing, the Referee, and other participants (including players) as needed. These individuals may be called to the next BOD meeting to present their views. After the investigation has been concluded the BOD will issue a decision and any disciplinary actions.
Any conduct incident with a coach or volunteer involving youth sports will be subject to review by the Dracut Park and Recreation Commission.
Zero Tolerance:
Dracut Youth Lacrosse has a ZERO TOLERANCE Policy in regard to drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.  Violations will result in dismissal from the program.
Coaches′ Code of Conduct:
  • I will place the emotional and physical well being of my players ahead of a personal desire to win.
  • I will treat each player with respect as an individual regardless of skill level
  • I will do my best to provide a safe environment for my players.
  • I will lead by example in demonstrating fair play and sportsmanship to all my players
  • I will respect the decisions of referees
  • I will adhere to the Code of Conduct while participating in any youth sports activity

Parents and/or Guardians Code of Conduct:
  • Do not force an unwilling child to participate in sports.
  • Remember that children are involved in organized sports for their enjoyment, not yours.
  • Teach your child that hard work and an honest effort are often more important than victory.
  • Help your child work toward skill improvement and good sportsmanship in every game.
  • Your child will then be a winner, even in defeat.
  • Do not ridicule your child for making a mistake
  • Recognize the value and importance of volunteer coaches, referees, officials and representatives of the program
  • Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from youth sporting activities

Players Code of Conduct:
  • Play for the fun of it, not just to please your parents or coach.
  • Play by the rules.
  • Never argue with or complain about the referee calls or decisions.
  • Control your temper and most of all; resist the temptation to retaliate even when you feel you have been wronged.
  • Concentrate on playing lacrosse and on affecting the outcome of the game with your best effort.
  • Be a good teammate and support your peers
  • Remember that the goals of the game are to have fun, and improve skills
  • Don't be a "show-off".
  • Cooperate and be respectful of your coaches, teammates, opponents and referees.
    • Be on time for Practices and Games and be committed to giving your best effort.

Procedures for Implementation of Code of Conduct, DYL Bylaws
The right to discipline a participant, association member, or spectator remains with the sub-committees. Procedures for discipline will involve first trying to resolve the issue via discussion between the appropriate sub-committee and involved parties within 21 days of the sub-committee receiving notification.  If the sub-committee cannot come to a decision within 21 days, they will appoint a five-member impartial review board to hear the matter.  The Park and Recreation Commission will appoint one attendee from the Park and Recreation Commission.  If the violator does not agree with the review boards′ decision, he/she can grieve it to the majority of the Park and Recreation Commission at the next regularly scheduled meeting.  The Park and Recreation Commission has the final word.  The Park and Recreation Commission reserve the right to overrule any sub-committee decision.
